Is reporting of crimes uniform. One hypothesis to be debunked is that currently shoplifting is ignored while previously it was not. Ditto other crimes. One way to debunk is to verify the graphs look similar for different states/communities

Crime data comes from the FBI’s uniform crime report which is very specific about reporting and all 19,000 local law enforcement agencies have to follow the same rules. I focus on violence and homicide in part because the reporting is more consistent across time and places.
